John the Prof

John “The Prof” Matheson was brought up in the Village of Spinningdale in Sutherland in the north of Scotland, but now lives in the seaside town of Nairn on the Moray Coast for the past 48 years.
His interest is Scottish Music began at an early age when he was about 7 years of age.
He has compared at many events al over the North and North east of Scotland, Including many appearances on the stage at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.
John was involved at Moray Firth radio for around 30 years, behind the scenes at first sometimes presenting Scottish music programmes, He was the regular presenter of a Piping Hot Programme for a number of years, he Co-Presented a three hour weekly programme “ All Scottish” of Scottish Music and songs.
John was also involved with Hospital Radio in Inverness for many years.
In 2018 John was Honoured to be awarded the British Empire Medal BEM in the Queens Honours List for his Contribution to Scottish Music and his involvement in Charity work in the Highlands.
The BEM medal was presented to him in June 2019 at a Charity Massed Bands Parade on Nairn Links.
He was a keen member of Nairn and District Pipe Band the last 17 years of his 40 years’ service he was Drum Major.
John is delighted to be presenting “Highland fling” on Nevis Radio as it gives the opportunity to share the Music and songs of Scotland around the wide world.
