History
nevis radio
Nevis Radio we are an Independent Local Radio station and broadcasts from the Ben Nevis Estate area of Fort William in Scotland and broadcasting to the communities in the surrounding region of Lochaber including Skye, Fort Augustus, Mallaig, Kinlochleven and all parts the Western Highlands. We are part of the IRN News Network.
Nevis Radio is Lochaber's very own radio station broadcasting 24 hours a day from Fort William. The station launched back in 1992 with Ski FM from the Nevis Range ski resort. Daily keeping skiers up to date with conditions on Aonach Mor. In the summer broadcasting Holiday FM.
It wasn't long until we realised the demand for a permanent broadcast, and the Nevis Community Radio Action Group was formed to raise funds and make a local radio station possible. Nevis Radio was awarded a full-time license back in 1994 and has been on the air ever since.
Today, with approximately 40 shows, broadcasting 24/7 Nevis Radio, has been very proud to have so many loyal listeners tune in. Now with streaming through the website, reaching out to more.
Remembering Willie Cameron, Station Manager
by kind permission of Show stoppers 2006 November
Everyone in Showstoppers was devastated to hear of the death of Willie Cameron. As well as being the Station Manager at Nevis Radio, Willie had been heavily involved with Showstoppers from the beginning as the Technical brain behind the Sound and Lighting desk . He was a pillar of calm and common sense and made sure, often with little preparation time, that shows were well lit and microphoned. He was often to be found up ladders, securing and taping wires. The Technical people are often the unsung heroes of any show until something goes wrong. Willie went about his job quietly and efficiently so that nothing ever did go wrong,We watched with despair as his illness gradually took him. It seems incredible that only 6 months ago he was up in the gantry making sure Annie Get Your Gun was well lit.
Our thoughts go out to Linda and the girls and Tavish and Betty, his parents. We have lost a good friend and a fine man.
Mission statement
Our passion for our job, drives us to keep you entertained. Nothing is more important than the community we serve.
